Trump announces his support for Iranian demonstrators

US President Donald Trump has expressed support for Iranian protesters who have protested the shooting down of the Ukrainian plane.

Trump said in a tweet on his Twitter account: “My administration will continue to stand with you, and tell the brave Iranian people, I have stood by your side since the beginning of my presidency, and my administration as well, and we follow your demonstrations closely, and your courage inspires me.”

Yesterday, a gathering in Tehran, during a memorial service for the victims of the Ukrainian plane that crashed a few days ago in Tehran, turned into a demonstration against the ruling regime in the country.

The demonstrators, who gathered in front of Amirkabir University in Tehran, chanted slogans against the Iranian regime, and demanded the resignation of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

They also chanted slogans such as “Let the Revolutionary Guards be ashamed, leave the country safely”, “Death to the dictator”, “We want the liars’ resignation”, and “We want the commander-in-chief of Khamenei to resign.”

After the angry demonstration launched anti-regime slogans, the Special Police Forces intervened, blocked the roads leading to the demonstration site, and prevented citizens from going to it.

And Saturday, the Iranian Staff announced, in a statement, that its air defense system shot down the Ukrainian passenger plane, due to a “human error” the moment it passed over a “sensitive military zone”.

While the Iranian Revolutionary Guards announced, later in the day, the commander of his underground force, Brigadier Amir Ali Haji Zada, that he was responsible for the downing of the plane.

The shooting down of the Ukrainian passenger plane, on January 8, has killed 176 people: 82 Iranians, 57 Canadians, 11 Ukraine, 10 Swedes, 4 Afghans, 3 Germans and 3 Britons.
