UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – President of the United States Donald Trump confirmed his intention and readiness to hold a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Ne, which is to be held in the coming weeks.
The American president said this during a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
“As you know, I will meet with Kim Jong-no in the coming weeks to discuss the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula,” Trump said.
“I hope that this meeting will bring great success, I count on it, it will be a grandiose event for North Korea and a grandiose event for the world. We will do everything possible to make it a success for the whole world, and not just for the United States or South Korea , North Korea or Japan – for the whole world, “- added the head of the White House.
“We are all waiting for the whole Korean Peninsula to live together in peace and prosperity, this is the fate of the Korean people, who deserve this and passed through much in recent years,” the US president said.
However, Trump also stressed that the United States will continue to exert maximum pressure on North Korea, as long as the DPRK authorities do not curtail their nuclear program.
“We will not repeat the mistakes of past administrations, we will continue the campaign of maximum pressure on North Korea until it is completely denuclearized,” Trump said, adding that it is necessary “to put an end to nuclear weapons ideally in all parts of the world.” “This is the goal for all of us,” the US president announced.
According to reports, earlier Trump appreciated China’s help in establishing relations with North Korea and noted that an agreement was reached to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-no, Reuters reports.
Speaking about the PRC, Trump noted that the Chinese side helped in the negotiations with the DPRK. “They were really great, helping us to achieve some sort of arrangement (with Pyongyang),” Trump said.
