UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — US President Donald Trump told the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday that it would be “terrible” that the United Kingdom could not get out of the European Union, as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who has been hit hard by Parliament and the Supreme Court.

“Only a man like him can succeed,” Trump said of Johnson. “I think it will work and it would be terrible to go the other way,” he said.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court ruled that Johnson’s decision to suspend parliament as the Brexit approached was illegal.

The British Supreme Court on Tuesday considered the Prime Minister’s decision to suspend the work of Parliament illegal move, in what was considered a slap to Johnson raised new calls for his resignation.

He had earlier confirmed that his plans to remove Britain from the European Union on 31 October would go ahead.

“I have to say that I strongly disagree with the judges’ conclusion. I don’t think it is true, but we will go ahead and the parliament will definitely reconvene,” he said.
