Trump hails court ruling on US-Mexico border wall

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — US President Donald Trump has welcomed a court ruling giving “green light” to his administration to build part of the controversial wall on the border with Mexico.

“The Last News: The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals just overturned a lower court ruling and allowed us to continue building one of the largest sections needed, the Southern Border Wall, $ 4 billion,” Trump wrote in Twitter.

Trump announced that the entire wall is under construction or is preparing to begin.

The US president’s response came hours after a Louisiana federal appeals court ruled that the government could use $ 3.6 billion in military funding to build border barriers along the US-Mexico border.

White House spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham said the ruling was a victory for the rule of law, stressing that “We are committed to keeping our borders safe and will finish the wall.”

The border wall was one of the most prominent promises of President Trump’s campaign on which he pledged to keep undocumented immigrants abroad. However, no significant development has been made in three years.

Immigrants from Central American countries strive each year to cross deserts and rivers on their way to the US in an effort to escape violence and poverty in their native countries.

Since coming to the office of president, Trump has pursued a strict approach to immigration, both legal and illegal.

Washington also signed an agreement with third countries Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras as part of its anti-immigration policy.

The third-country agreement obliges Central American immigrants to seek asylum in those three countries and those applications processed there before they can apply for asylum in the US, although under US law immigrants are allowed to seek asylum within the US or at official ports of entry.

Although Mexico refused such an agreement, the country reached another agreement with the US in June, following a tax that forces the country to reduce immigration flows.
