UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he supported a “cooperative” approach to a federal inquiry into possible complicity between Moscow and his campaign, which he has repeatedly criticized as a “pursuit.”
“I agreed with our disciplined cooperative approach with Robert Mueller,” Trump said, referring to the special investigator who is leading the investigation.
Muller is leading an investigation into allegations of Russia’s intervention in the US presidential election in 2016. US intelligence agencies concluded that Russia had already intervened in the election but Moscow denied it.
Muller’s investigation also includes whether Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia, which Trump denies.
The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Trump had tried to dismiss Muller in December.
Trump earlier denied the report.
“If I want to dismiss Robert Mueller in December, as the failed New York Times says, I would have told him,” he said on Twitter.
