UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he might go to Jerusalem, which the United States will take over from Tel Aviv this month, after straying from world powers and recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Trump made the remarks at the White House.
The embassy is expected to open on May 14 at a temporary site while a permanent site is being built.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had earlier told Fox News in an interview that he would like to visit Trump.
Trump also pointed out last month that he might attend the opening of the embassy, which angered the Arabs but strengthened his connection with Netanyahu.
“We would like to be here,” Netanyahu told Fox News. It is his decision. He has an open invitation. ”
The decision to transfer the US embassy to Jerusalem angered Palestinians who want East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state, sparking criticism for Washington around the world.
