Turkey: Haftar violates the ceasefire in Libya and must be stopped

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Turkish Foreign Minister Khalifa Haftar, the commander of eastern Libya (National Army), accused on Saturday of violating the ceasefire continuously, saying that it “must be stopped” in order to reach a political solution.

Turkey supports the internationally recognized government of Faiz al-Sarraj in Libya and has sent military personnel there to support al-Sarraj. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to deploy troops there if necessary.

The Turkish minister told a press conference with German Foreign Minister Haikou Maas at the Munich Security Conference that Haftar, who is based in eastern Libya, wants a military, not a political, solution to the conflict in Libya.
