UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Turkish forces launched an attack on Kurdish guerrilla positions in the northeastern countryside of al-Hasakah province, state media reported on Monday evening.
According to the agency “SANA” and “Al-Akhbariya” channel that “there are reports of Turkish aggression targeting Tall Taliyah in the northeastern countryside of al-Hasakah province,” and explained that this site belonged to fighters of the “Syrian Democratic Forces.”
Initial reports said there were “no casualties” from the Turkish forces’ attack on Malikiyah countryside.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier in the day that his country was determined to launch a military operation in northeast Syria to clear the region of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara considers a terrorist organization and an arm of the PKK.
This comes as the United States begins withdrawing its forces from northeastern Syria near the border with Turkey, amid the recent preparations for a military operation to clear the territory of the Kurdish “YPG” active in the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces coalition in the war on ISIS.”
In the meantime, US President Donald Trump has vowed to “destroy and destroy” Turkey’s economy if it takes any step “beyond the borders” in Syria.
