Turkish soldier shot dead from Iran

IRAN (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — A Turkish soldier has been killed and two others wounded in cross-border fire from Iranian territory, the defense ministry said on Friday.

The ministry said in a statement that the incident occurred near the border town of Chaldiran in the eastern province of Wan during an army patrol, adding that the injured suffered minor injuries.

The attack came days after Turkey launched a “spring of peace” military operation against Kurdish fighters in northeastern Syria, which Ankara agreed to suspend on Thursday.
