Two Palestinian activists killed by Israel in Syria

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Palestinian activists fired rockets from the Gaza Strip into Israel on Monday in response to an Israeli raid in Syria that claimed the lives of two members of Islamic Jihad.

The Palestinian armed group announced at the end of the day that it was ending its “military response” against the Hebrew state.

Israeli fighter planes carried out strikes on Islamic Jihad positions in the Adeliya area, near Damascus, shortly before midnight Sunday following a clash between combatants of the Palestinian armed group and the Israeli army on along the border with the Gaza Strip.

Israeli forces carried out “a series of strikes against terrorist targets belonging to the Islamic Jihad organization in southern Damascus and several dozen terrorist targets belonging to Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip,” the spokesperson announced on Twitter. speech by the Israeli army Avichay Adraee.

“We have eliminated six terrorists in the past 24 hours, not just in Gaza,” said Israeli Defense Minister Naftali Bennett.

In a statement released on Monday, the Islamic Jihad said two of its members were killed in the attack in Syria.

The Israeli military has also announced the death of a Palestinian who tried to plant explosives near the security fence on the edge of the Gaza Strip.

The Islamic Jihad, an ally of Hamas and considered by Israel as a terrorist organization, said that it was one of its members.

Video footage shot by a Gaza photographer and widely shared on social media shows what appears to be the body of an Islamic Jihad activist hanging from an Israeli bulldozer tasked with removing the body.

These images sparked outrage in Gaza and calls for revenge. The Islamic Jihad then fired a volley of rockets into Israel, triggering Israeli reprisal raids.
