UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The riots occurred on Friday night in the Mexican state Tabasco prison and caused the death of two prisoners, another 25 were injured, local media reported.
“At least two were killed and 25 were injured in a fight at the Creset Tabasco Social Rehab Center in Villahermos,” Jornada said in a statement.
It is reported that the prison guards were not able to prevent unrest and left the scene of the conflict before the arrival of power reinforcements, it is also said that the prison shop was looted.
According to media reports, on Friday, five participants in the conflict were taken to hospitals with stabbing and cutting wounds, the rest of the victims received medical care on the spot.
There was no official information about the conflict, but the state government secretary told reporters that law enforcement authorities had taken control of the situation in the facility by midnight.
Rebellions and violent conflicts in Mexican prisons happen every year. The riot in the Topo Chico prison in Nuevo Leon State in February 2016 killed almost 50 people and became one of the bloodiest in Mexico in recent years.
