UK flag removed from EU Council building

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The flag of Great Britain was removed from the building of the Council of the European Union, in which meetings of member countries of the community at the level of heads of state and government are held.

A video recording of how the flag is removed is posted on the Council’s Twitter account on Friday night.

“The UK flag has been removed from the EU Council building, as the country leaves the European Union at midnight,” the video says in the signature of the European Institute, which remove the British flag, leaving 27 others there.

The United Kingdom will leave the European Union at midnight local time (02:00 Moscow time), after which the transition period will begin until December 31, 2020. It was agreed in order to avoid the shocks that Brexit could cause. For 11 months, the kingdom and the 27 remaining countries in the EU will continue to interact as if there was no Brexit.

During this time, the parties intend to agree on all conditions for future coexistence and interaction, primarily to try to conclude a free trade agreement.
