UN criticizes arrests and torture in Libya

LIBYA (OBSERVATORY) –┬áThe United Nations said thousands of people were being detained and tortured by armed groups in Libya.

The United Nations said in a report investigating these cases since December 2015 that men, women and children were being held in appalling conditions for an indefinite period.

Hundreds of bodies were found dead, some handcuffed and tortured.

The United Nations said successive Libyan governments relied on armed groups for law enforcement and often arrested people for their ties of family or political affiliation.
