UN has denied reports of secret directives on Syria

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) –┬áThe UN has denied the existence of secret documents in the organization, which would forbid it to deal with the reconstruction of Syria, told RIA Novosti in the press office.

On Monday, the Russian Federation sent an inquiry to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres about the ban on the organization’s participation in the restoration of Syria.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that, according to him, the political department of the UN Secretariat secretly prohibited the organization’s subdivisions from participating in the restoration of the Syrian economy and issued a secret directive banning organizations involved in this system from participating in any projects to restore the Syrian economy.

“The UN Department of Political Affairs and no other departments issued a” secret directive “(for Syria – ed.),” a spokesman for the press office said.

He added that the UN “constantly discusses priorities and approaches to the Syrian conflict, taking into account the changing realities.”

In addition, the representative of the press office noted that “there are internal rules and guidelines formulated within the framework of consultative processes and the UN common system to provide support and assistance to those in need throughout the territory of Syria on an equal and non-discriminatory basis, taking into account the needs of the approach to observance of neutrality and impartiality”.

“These principles are consistent with the principles of the UN Charter and the relevant resolutions of the Security Council,” the press officer added.

He recalled the UN position that “a reliable and lasting solution to the conflict in Syria can be achieved only through a political process and the UN continues its efforts to advance this process.”
