UNITED NATIONS (OBSERVATORY) – The United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting at 15:00 GMT at the request of Russia to discuss the tripartite aggression against Syria, the agency quoted diplomatic sources as saying.
Said Sergei Ryabkov, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister, told RIA Novosti, he said that Russia would call during the meeting to give a preliminary assessment of the aggression.
“We hope that the international community will show a united and firm stance, at least with regard to the work of experts of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in Duma, in the eastern region, so that they can carry out their mission there,” the Russian diplomat said.
Before that, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterich called on all countries to exercise restraint in order to avoid escalation in Syria and to avoid events that do not bear witness.
Early on Saturday, the United States, Britain and France launched missile attacks on Syria, targeting several areas in the provinces of Damascus and Homs.
