Palestinians stand silent in Cannes protesting Gaza dead

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – Hollywood actor Benicio Del Toro joined the Palestinians at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday in a demonstration against the killing of Palestinians by the Israeli army on the Gaza border.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said 60 Palestinians had been shot dead or tear gas fired by Israeli forces in what Palestinian authorities described as a massacre of protesters on the day the United States opened its embassy in Jerusalem.

Dozens of people gathered and raised their hands high outside the Palestinian wing in Cannes, southern France.

“It’s really crazy to be talking about our plans for the future with films and filmmakers while our children and families are suffering from the Israeli onslaught on them,” said Palestinian producer and producer Mei Odeh.

This is the first year for Palestinians to have their own pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival.
