US and EU condemn Turkish operation in Syria at UN

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) — Representatives of the United States and EU countries in the UN Security Council condemned the military operation of Turkey in northern Syria, reports RIA.

“The US in no way approved the decision of the Turkish government to increase military pressure in northeastern Syria,” said US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Kelly Kraft.

According to her, Turkey is now responsible for ensuring that all the “igilovskie * spiders contained in prisons” do not run away.

Kraft warned that “the inability to play by the rules, to protect vulnerable groups of the population, the inability to ensure that the ISIS cannot use these actions to restore, will have consequences.”

In turn, representatives of Germany, Great Britain, France, Poland, Belgium and Estonia stated that they were deeply concerned about the military operation of Turkey and called on Ankara to stop unilateral military operations.

“We do not believe that the military operation removes Turkey’s security concerns,” said German Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Jurgen Schulz.

According to him, the renewed hostilities in northeast Syria will only further undermine the stability of the entire region and aggravate the suffering of the civilian population, which will increase the number of refugees.

“Unilateral military actions threaten the progress that the coalition has made in the fight against IS. They undermine the security of the coalition’s partners on the spot,” he said.

According to him, the authors of the statement are committed to maintaining the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the ATS.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on October 9 announced the launch of Operation Source of Peace in northern Syria against the Kurdistan Workers Party and the Islamic State terrorist group banned in Turkey.

Turkish aviation attacked the city of Ras al-Ain and a number of other Syrian cities on the border of the two countries on the same day.

Later it was announced the start of the ground part of the operation. According to the latest data from the Turkish Ministry of Defense, the military, after the operation “Source of Peace” began, attacked 181 targets of Kurdish forces in northern Syria, destroying “174 terrorists.”

Media reports of civilian casualties and injuries.
