US attacks Russia, China, citing “valuable conflict”

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Friday Russia was killing its political opponents and China’s tactics were “appallingly similar” to those of former East Germany, calling free nations a “valuable conflict” with countries that restrict freedoms.

In a speech in Berlin on lessons learned from the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, Pompeo said: “The West, all of us, have lost the way in the drunkenness of that moment.”

“We thought we could divert our resources away from alliances and from our armies. We were wrong.”

“Today, Russia, under the leadership of a former KGB officer based in Dresden, is invading its neighbors and killing political opponents,” he said.

“In China, the CPC is formulating a new vision of authoritarianism,” he said.

“Let us stand united”, concluding by “standing together as allies”.
