US contacted Russia before strikes against Syria

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) –┬áThe US contacted Russia before striking Syria to minimize the risk of casualties among Russian military and civilian populations, the US ambassador to Russia John Huntsman said in a statement.

He stressed that the goals that the US chose to defeat were part of the illegal chemical weapons program deployed by the Syrian government led by Bashar Assad.

At the same time, Huntsman pointed out that there are no talks about the conflict between the two superpowers (Russia and the United States – ed.).

“We are defending the principle that it is inadmissible to use chemical weapons anywhere and never,” the ambassador concluded, adding that the US is counting on cooperation with Russia.

On April 14, the United States, France and the United Kingdom launched a massive missile attack on the territory of Syria. More than 100 cruise missiles and air-to-surface missiles were fired. The Syrian air defense system hit most of them on approach to their targets. Russia condemned the actions of Western states and convened an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.

The missile strike against Syria was a response to the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian Duma, which allegedly occurred on April 7. Moscow repeatedly pointed to the lack of evidence of the hematologic, emphasizing that in this case it is a question of provocation, the purpose of which is to disrupt the truce.
