US Defense Secretary warns of economic and security influence of China and Russia

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — US Defense Secretary Mark Esper on Friday called on European allies to be concerned about the “growing economic and security threats” to China and Russia.

“It is very clear that Russia and China want to disturb the international system by exploiting their veto power against the economic, diplomatic and security decisions of other nations,” Esper said in a press statement during his visit to London.

He added: “I would like to warn my friends in Europe, this is not a problem in a land so remote that you are not affected.”

On the same day, Esber met his British counterpart Ben Wallace, amid a crisis over Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s determination to oust Britain from the European Union on October 31.
