US demands Beijing to completely abandon Iranian oil

According to US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, the White House achieves this through trade negotiations with China.

Against the backdrop of trade negotiations, Washington is pushing Beijing to completely stop the purchase of Iranian oil. This was aired on Fox News Channel by US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin.

He recalled that the United States has already imposed sanctions on a number of Chinese companies that transport oil from Iran, reducing the income of the Islamic Republic, “probably by more than 95%.” At the same time, most of Iranian exports, according to Mnuchin, still come from China.

“I met with Chinese officials. They sent a delegation to meet and discuss this with us and with representatives of the State Department,” the American minister said, adding that state-owned companies from China no longer buy raw materials from Iran. Mnuchin noted that the United States is “in close cooperation” with Chinese officials, seeking a complete halt to the supply of “black gold.”

In September 2019, the US State Department imposed sanctions against the division of the Chinese giant COSCO, which is one of the largest oil tanker operators in the world. This led to a sharp increase in the cost of freight of ships of this type.
