UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Gordon Sondland said the US ambassador to the European Union, “President Donald Trump has sought to use his influence to achieve personal political interests.”
In his testimony before the House Intelligence Committee, Sundeland said the US president “has prepared a blueprint to pressure Ukraine to open an investigation into his political rival Joe Biden.”
“We are following the president’s orders,” he said, adding that Trump “led a pressure campaign against Ukraine with the participation of US Secretary of State Mike Pompo and Vice President Mike Pence.”
He explained: “There was a clear trade-off to make military assistance to Ukraine subject to President Volodymyr Zelinsky open an investigation on Biden.”
Democrats accuse Trump of using his presidential powers by asking his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelinsky to open an investigation against former vice president Joe Biden, the Democratic front-runner to face him in next year’s presidential election.
In a July 25 telephone conversation released by the White House, Trump asked Zelenski to “scrutinize” Joe Biden and his son Hunter.
The call has raised suspicions among many officials and intelligence agencies that a CIA informant has decided to brief him, which triggered the case.
