US explains Patriot’s failure to attack Saudi oil facilities

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is not surprised that Saudi air defense systems, including the American Patriot missile defense systems, were unable to repel a missile attack on oil fields.

According to the diplomat, such systems work “with varying success.”

“Even some of the best systems in the world do not always hit targets,” said Pompeo.

At the same time, the Secretary of State once again accused Iran of attacks on Saudi oil facilities.

Earlier, President Vladimir Putin suggested that Saudi Arabia buy the Russian S-300 or S-400 to protect important objects of the kingdom.

Field attack

On Saturday, several facilities of the Saudi Aramco oil and gas company were attacked by drones and rocket fire. The responsibility for what happened was claimed by the Hussite Yemeni rebels, against whom Saudi Arabia is fighting in the coalition of Arab states. Despite this, the US authorities accused Iran of what happened.

In Tehran, these accusations were called false. An official representative of the Government of the Islamic Republic emphasized that the incident was harmful to the entire region and was not in Iran’s interests. In addition, Tehran noted that Washington’s accusations have already become a tradition and are not surprising.
