US holds Syria responsible for delayed arrival of inspectors to sites of alleged chemical attack

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) –┬áThe Syrian government is responsible for the delay in the arrival of inspectors from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to sites in the suspected chemical attack city of Douma, a strategy it has already used, US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said.

“We are fully aware of the delay imposed by the regime on that delegation, but we also know very well how they worked before and hid what they did using chemical weapons,” Matisse said before starting a meeting with his Qatari counterpart.

“In other words, they use the delay, after a blow like that, to try to hide the evidence before the investigation team enters. So it’s a pity they’re late.”
