UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The United States is introducing a state of emergency in the country on Sunday due to the spread of coronavirus, said Alex Azar, Minister of Health and Human Services, at a White House briefing.
“The president signed a decree introducing an emergency regime that begins on Sunday … (he suggests) a temporary ban on entry into the US of foreign citizens who pose a risk in terms of the transmission of the 2019-noROvirus,” he said.
This, he said, is about foreigners who visited China 14 days ago or less. The only exceptions are family members of American citizens and permanent residents of the United States.
“US citizens returning from mainland China will be under special surveillance for 14 days,” he added.
In addition, the emergency mode involves restricting flights to China from the United States with only seven airports.
The World Health Organization has recognized the outbreak of the new coronavirus as an emergency of international concern. 213 people have become victims of coronavirus in China, about 9.7 thousand people are infected. About 100 more people fell ill outside of China, in almost 20 countries.
The first two cases of coronavirus were detected in the Russian Federation, in the Trans-Baikal Territory and the Tyumen Region, both of them were Chinese citizens.
