US plans to create Arab coalition in northern Syria

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – A delegation of experts and advisers from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan recently met several times with representatives of Arab tribes to set up a coalition of Arab countries, this idea being actively supported by the United States, according to information available to Sputnik.

Members of a delegation of military experts and advisers from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan have had, a while ago, several meetings with representatives of Arab tribes on the territory of the base US military located south of the city of Ain al-Arab, in the governorate of Aleppo, controlled by the Kurdish units of protection of the people (YPG), learned Sputnik.

In particular, there has been talk of forming a military force of Sunni Arabs to deploy in northern Syria. In addition, representatives of Arab countries conducted negotiations with leaders of the YPG and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) .

In this context, the leader of the Democratic Party of Syrian Kurdistan, Gelo Iso, said in an interview with Sputnik that Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan wanted to establish a coalition force. in Syria and that Washington wanted to “entrust” them with the northern territories of the country and those inhabited by Sunni Arabs.

“The initiative to create a coalition of Arab countries is actively supported by the US, which wants the military presence of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar in Syria to guarantee security in the north of the country,” he said.

However, Arab countries are apprehensive about this project. On the one hand, they fear a possible ambush on the part of the Americans and, on the other hand, they are wary of the reaction of Iran, Russia and Turkey if they entered Syria, explained Gelo Iso.

“In this situation, they make a decision. Nothing is clear for the moment,” he said.

He added that the Arab countries wanted to participate in the recovery of Raqqa.

“The Arab countries would like to contribute to the reconstruction of Syrian cities, especially Raqqa. During their visits to northern Syria, delegations from the United States and European countries bring with them representatives of Arab countries. Washington is seeking economic support from Arab countries for the recovery of Raqqa,” he said.

But for now, the Arab countries are proposing to grant only humanitarian aid , said Gelo Iso.

Ewwas Eli, a member of the leadership of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) , had previously told Sputnik that several US military bases were in northern Syria, but had refused, for security reasons, to cite the number as well as the number of US military deployed in the region.
