US reconnaissance plane exposed to Chinese laser beams

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The US Navy complained about the exposure of its Poseidon P-8A naval plane to Chinese laser beams in the Pacific Ocean.

A US Navy spokesman said that a Chinese destroyer had directed the laser beam to the American reconnaissance plane, which had performed the patrol mission in an area 611 km west of Guam Island.

He added that the laser is not visible to the naked eye. But a sensor in the reconnaissance plane was able to record it. The spokesman described the Chinese destroyer’s behavior as unprofessional and insecure.

He explained that the American naval plane was performing a patrol and did not violate any international laws. As for the lasers used by the Chinese destroyer, it could damage the crew and sailors, as well as air and maritime navigation devices.

The newspaper “Komsomolskaya Pravda” had reported earlier that the US Naval Command has decided to show strength against China in the Pacific to warn it against taking unwanted steps in the South China Sea.
