US strikes in Idlib de-escalation zone without notifying

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — Washington, violating all agreements and not notifying Moscow or Ankara, launched an airstrike in the area between the settlements of Maaret Misreen and Kafer Haya in the province of Idlib, the Center for Reconciliation of the warring parties said.

As explained by the Central Military Command Center, from six in the morning on August 31, at the initiative of Russia and Turkey, the Syrian army unilaterally announced a ceasefire in the de-escalation zone, which notified representatives of all parties to the conflict.

The truce was supposed to allow civilians to leave Idlib along the humanitarian corridor.

During the day, combat aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Syrian Air Force stopped flying over Idlib. However, as the center clarifies, at 15:00 on Sunday, the United States struck at settlements. There are numerous casualties and destruction.

According to the CPVC, the American side stated that the “control post of Al-Qaeda in Syria”, which threatened the safety of US citizens, was destroyed during the attack.

“By their actions, the United States jeopardized the continued maintenance of the ceasefire in the Idlib de-escalation zone, and foiled it in several directions. <…> Despite the shelling caused by the American strike, the Syrian troops maintain a moratorium on the conduct of hostilities,” the Ministry of Defense of Russia reported.

According to the agency, such actions by the American side are perplexing, given that Washington accuses Moscow and Damascus of “indiscriminate use of aviation” in Idlib.
