US strikes “Iranian oil transport network” with sanctions

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — The US Treasury has again expanded its sanctions list against Iran, listing nine individuals, including people from Lebanon, the UAE and India, 16 companies and six oil tankers.

The US Treasury said the targeted parties are participating in a large shipping network run by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, through which Iranian oil is transferred for the benefit of the Syrian government, Hezbollah and other illegal actors to circumvent US sanctions, according to a statement posted on the ministry’s website on Wednesday.

The statement added that the network is led by the Quds Force commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Qasem Soleimani and supervised by former Iranian Oil Minister Rustam Qasemi and includes dozens of individuals, companies and oil tankers distributed to India, Lebanon, Singapore, UAE, Suez Canal and others.

In the spring of 2019, the network used more than a dozen ships to transport nearly 10 million barrels of crude oil, mostly to the Syrian regime, and the proceeds from the sale of oil amounted to more than half a billion dollars. In addition, it sold about 4 million barrels of gas condensate and hundreds of thousands of barrels of gas oil, according to the statement.
