US threatens Turkey with sanctions for the purchase of S-400

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — Turkey is threatened by US congressional sanctions for the purchase of Russian S-400 air defense systems, and President Donald Trump will also declare that such purchases are unacceptable during Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Washington next week, said Robert O’Brien, US Presidential Advisor on National Security.

“We were very unhappy with this,” O’Brien said on CBS , commenting on Turkey’s purchase of the S-400.

“If Turkey does not get rid of the S-400, then probably the sanctions in accordance with the CAATSA law will be passed in Congress with the overwhelming support of both countries, and Turkey will feel the consequences of these sanctions. We clearly told President Erdogan. There is no place for NATO in the S-400 , for significant purchases of Russian weapons. This president (Trump) will tell him (Erdogan) very clearly when he arrives here in Washington,” said O’Brien.

Earlier, the United States excluded Turkey from the production program of its F-35 aircraft and threatened with further sanctions for the purchase of Russian missile anti-aircraft systems.
