VIDEO: Evacuation of the US military from Libya

UNITED STATES, WASHINGTON (OBSERVATORY) — The African Command of the US Armed Forces (AFRICOM) announced the temporary withdrawal of its troops from Libya due to the aggravation of the situation in the country. The process of evacuating the American contingent was in the video.

The footage published by REN TV shows US landing boats near Tripoli. The withdrawal of troops began in connection with the approach to the Libyan capital of the troops of Marshal Khalifa Haftar.

According to the head of AFRICOM Thomas Waldhauser, the situation in Libya is becoming increasingly difficult and unpredictable.

The situation in the country again worsened in early April. Libyan National Army Commander Marshal Khalifa Haftar has launched an offensive on Tripoli to oust the government of national consensus led by Fayez Sarraj, whom he considers terrorist. In turn, the Libyan capital declared full combat readiness.

UN Secretary General António Guterres at a press conference in Tripoli urged the parties to avoid military clashes. The UN Security Council supported the Secretary General and announced his intention to hold accountable those responsible for escalating the conflict.

In 2011, the United States and EU countries supported the Libyan rebels and facilitated a coup d’etat – the “Arab spring”, as a result of which the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was killed and the number of victims was the largest conflict in the Middle East, not counting the war in Syria.
