WHO declared real threat of coronavirus pandemic

US, WASHINGTON (NEWS OBSERVATORY) — The threat of a pandemic of the new coronavirus becomes real with an increase in the number of infected people, said Tedros Adhan Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization.

However, he emphasized that this may be the first pandemic in history that can be controlled.

At the end of last year, Chinese authorities reported the spread of unknown pneumonia in Wuhan . Experts have found that the causative agent of the disease is a new coronavirus.

The World Health Organization recognized the outbreak as an emergency of international concern.

The total number of infected reached 110 thousand in 104 countries, of which 81 thousand are in mainland China. The most difficult situation among European countries is observed in Italy: the number of infected exceeded 9100 people, of which 463 died.
