UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhan Ghebreyesus said the first results of coronavirus vaccines are expected in a few weeks.
“Over 20 vaccines are being developed in the world and several drugs are undergoing clinical research. We expect the first results in a few weeks,” the head of WHO said during a press conference broadcast on the organization’s on Twitter.
On December 31, 2019, the Chinese authorities informed the World Health Organization about an outbreak of unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan in the central part of the country (Hubei Province).
Experts have identified the causative agent of the disease – this is a new coronavirus.
WHO recognized the outbreak as an emergency of international importance and gave the disease its official name – COVID-19.
