World Health Organization declares a global emergency for coronavirus

UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY NEWS) — The World Health Organization has declared a global emergency for the rapid spread of coronavirus.

Tedros chief Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the main reason is not what is happening in China, but what is happening elsewhere in the world.

One of the main concerns is the spread to countries that have a poorer health system.

According to reports published by the organization, 98 cases of the virus have been registered in 18 different countries, but fortunately there have been no casualties.

Dr Ghebreyesus said during a conference in Geneva that such a deadly virus had an unprecedented response from countries around the world.

According to him, China is the only one that has taken stringent measures to prevent further spread of coronavirus.

So far, there have been about 170 fatalities in China and over 7,000 infected.

Most of the cases are people who have traveled from the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the epidemic has erupted.

However in Germany, Japan, Vietnam, and the US, 8 cases of human-to-human transmission of infection have been reported

Speaking at the Geneva conference, Dr Tedros described the virus as an ‘unprecedented outbreak’ that has encountered an ‘unprecedented response’

He praised the extraordinary measures the Chinese authorities have taken to prevent the spread.
