UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova described the storming of the Russian consulate in Seattle as “a government attack.”
“The US authorities began to seize the buildings of the Russian Consulate General in Seattle, a rare spectacle, a government attack on the seizure,” Zakharova wrote on her Facebook page.
Representatives of the US authorities entered the compound of the Russian consulate in Seattle after Russian diplomats left on Tuesday.
The consulate was suspended on April 2 after US authorities decided to close the consulate and expel 60 Russian diplomats in solidarity with Britain over the poisoning of former Russian intelligence officer Sergey Scrippal.
Since April 2 took place in the consulate business to prepare for the closure of buildings.
The Russian embassy in Washington considered the actions of the US authorities an unfriendly step and stressed that Moscow would consider measures to respond to them. She stressed that the storming of the consulate is a flagrant violation of the agreement on diplomatic relations.
Russia has not agreed to lift diplomatic immunity from its diplomatic facilities in Seattle, she said.
