UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) — The decision of the United States to establish observation points in northern Syria will complicate the situation in the region. This was announced on Saturday by the Minister of National Defense of Turkey Hulusi Akar.
“I think that this practice will complicate the situation in an already difficult region. We conveyed our concern to our American partners in connection with [their] intention to organize observation points in the north of Syria,” the TRT television channel quoted the minister as saying .
According to Akar, “Turkish soldiers will take all necessary measures to ensure security on the border with Syria.”
Pentagon chief James Mattis announced on November 21 the US intention to establish several observation posts on the Syrian-Turkish border. According to the Daily Sabah, Washington took this step due to Ankara’s concern because of the presence of Kurdish Forces of People’s Self-Defense Forces in this region, which the Turkish side considers to be the Syrian branch of the Kurdish Workers Party.
