UNITED STATES (OBSERVATORY) – While statistics compiled by international institutions indicate that the US-led military coalition has killed more than 9,600 civilians in Syria, Washington has claimed that only 939 Syrian civilians were killed in its attacks.
The Joint Operations Center, which operates under the auspices of the US Central Command, has announced that attacks by the military coalition operating in Syria have “unintentionally” caused the death of 939 civilians, reports Tasnim News. Between August 2014 and May 2018, the US-led coalition conducted 29,569 attacks.
Despite these statements, the estimates of the London-based Air War Research Center – and independent of the British government – are quite different: the US coalition airstrikes in Syria are believed to be responsible for the deaths of at least 9,600 civilians.
For the moment, about 2,000 US troops have been deployed in Syria, although the Syrian government has called on Washington to withdraw its troops from the country.
Damascus considers the presence of American troops in Syria as a violation of its national sovereignty.
